It all started in Huancayo, Peru 12 or 14 years ago.
Let's start with a little history. Huancayo is a city located in the center of Peru, at an altitude of 3250 meters above sea level. The way Valeria remembers it is getting there by bus or sometimes by car very early in the morning. As soon as she would get there she could she all the people opening up for business, people getting to work, kids half asleep going to school. Now, keep in mind that the trip from Lima to Huancayo is 6 or 7 hours long, and for little Val this was a particular trip since the altitude really messed with her system.
Both her grandparents worked in the health sector of the city, her grandpa would also teach Maxillofacial odontology at the university and her grandma would mostly work at the health center as a pediatrician odontologist.
Every single morning she stayed there she would feel nausea and very sick, she was not used to the altitude whatsoever. But, her grandpa would get Eucalyptus and Muña leafs, rub them in his hand until they where hotted aromatic and put them close to Val's nose to inhale. WORKED LIKE A CHARM.
Also some days her grandma would take her and her aunt to a sauna, which would also help with her nausea. They would put eucalyptus leafs inside the sauna to boost the relaxation. Her grandma would take her to several parades in which people would walk along a statue of different saints, we call it "procesión" The smell of this parade would be very specific for her but she could never actually figure out what was it, until many years later she figured out is was Palo Santo wood.
The mixture if Eucalyptus, Lavender and Palo Santo is extreme meaningful for Valeria, it reminds her of childhood memories that she cherishes very much. It's a real pleasure to share this with you .
